Usagi and Chibiusa defence
Usagi is one of my most favorite Sailor Moon characters (along with Minako Aino, Ami Mizuno, and Makoto Kino), but I sometimes felt like the hatred towards her can be really undeserving. Majority of the reasons of why many people hate her is because she is annoying, stupid, whinny, lazy, crybaby, eat too much, being a "Mary Sue," and too clumsy. I do agree that Usagi can be a bit annoying, but at least she isn't that bad, in fact her flaws can be pretty hilarious to watch. Despite of her flaws, she can be a good fighter who puts her heart and soul as a Sailor Moon.

In fact, in the manga I think her character is better developed and more well rounded rather than the anime, which is another reason why I prefer the manga version of the Sailor Moon rather than the anime.

Also, Usagi still can take her responsibility as Sailor Moon quite well even though she can be prone to lose her fighting spirit or being rather fragile. And I also like on the way she is always being so grateful towards the others who has done many things to her.

The worst thing is that she was voted by the Japanese as the #32 most annoying/unlikeable character on the Biglobe poll.

As for Chibiusa......

I noticed that they are a lot many people hate her because of how annoying, clingy, bratty, loud, disrespectful, and rude she is. While I do agree that Chibiusa can be annoying, but she also can be a sweetie for a few times. Actually the whole annoying, clingy, bratty, loud, disrespectful, and rude Chibiusa is better described for the anime version of Chibiusa, manga version of Chibiusa actually isn't really like that.

I honestly like the manga version of her because she has sweeter personality and somewhat more respectful towards Usagi. And besides, her annoying and bratty personality on the anime can be rather funny to watch for a few times to me.

And her friendship with Hotaru Tomoe is one of the best thing about Chibiusa, I really enjoy the friendship between them in both anime and manga. Her relationship with Helios is also quite enjoyable I find.

But being annoying, silly, and a crybaby is why I love Usagi! And same with Chibiusa, though I've never watched the anime version of Chibiusa.

I don't like Chibiusa in the anime BUT I do like her in the manga. Her friendship with Hotaru is very sweet (which is also one of the few things I liked about her in the anime). And she's actually effective as a fighter and even saves Sailor Moon's life in the Stars arc. She's also written more sympathetically, IMO.

Usagi and Chibiusa are both more mature/grow up quicker in the manga, true. The problem with the manga, for me, is that it rushes through everything too fast. But that's how I feel about most manga, actually. I prefer the anime and the filler because I feel like that develops the characters at a more believable pace.

I love how Usagi takes responsibility as Sailor Moon, especially as the series goes on. It's very powerful and poignant. And her gratitude towards her friends is very lovely to see.

I've always been sad at the Chibiusa hate. The original English dub made her a lot worse than she is in the Japanese version of the anime, too. I wonder how many of the rabid Chibiusa haters might feel differently had they never seen the English dub.

And oh yes, Chibiusa and Hotaru's friendship is just so beautiful and sweet. :) Definitely one of my favorite things about the series.

I agree with everything you said, thank you very much.

And btw, some Chibiusa bashers can be really annoying. I mean, sometimes they would tell you that Chibiusa is an evil incarnated, which doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, bashers come up with the strangest and most illogical complaints. Good Grief.

As for the English dub version of Chibiusa, oh well I also heard the same complaints about her which I agree to an extent. I personally find the English dub version of Chibiusa was kind of a let down, because Chiniusa's personality was totally butchered by the English dub executor. In the original anime version, Chibiusa still showed her positive traits. While in the manga, Chibiusa has a really sweet personality.

Btw, Chibiusa wasn't the only one whose personality got butchered by the English dub executors. Other characters like Usagi, Makoto, Mamoru, and even Rei personalities' are also completely butchered.

In the English dub, Usagi was butchered into a complete brat, the English dub cut her positive traits. Makoto in the English dub was butchered into a Tomboy who behaves like a thug, the original version of Makoto was a tomboy and tough but matured and feminine girl. Rei in the English dub turned into a complete (sorry for the word) b*tch, in the original anime version Rei was suppose to be the feisty tsundere who still shows her kindness and compassion towards Usagi. While Rei in the manga was more matured and mysterious.

Yeah, it's a pity that happened with the characters in the English dub. Some positive traits still came through, but they definitely ended up with more bad traits than they had originally.

I have to admit, I don't really care for Rei in either version of the anime. At least in season 1, even in the Japanese version, she is really unnecessarily nasty to Usagi sometimes. Maybe that lessens over time into the comfortable banter they develop; I'm hoping to re-watch the whole anime straight through, but I still need to buy the other re-released DVD sets. (I only have the first one.)

Oh well, it is true that Rei in the anime can be rather "b#tchy" (sorry for my word) to Usagi, but she isn't bad IMO. At least she has her own moments where she can be sympathetic to Usagi.

I do love those sympathetic moments. :)

Yes me too.

And btw I also heard several complaints from some Sailor Moon fans about anime version of Mamoru, they said that anime version of Mamoru is useless and acts like a jerk sometimes. I actually kind of blame the anime executor for butchering Mamoru's personality (especially in the English dub). While in the manga, Mamoru is sweeter and more supporting towards Usagi.

I've definitely heard those complaints a lot. I don't know; since Mamoru has to intervene in almost every episode when the girls get into a sticky situation, it doesn't seem like he's useless. I do love how supportive and sweet he is in the manga, though. :)
Tiffany Cheng on November 11th, 2015 04:08 am (UTC)
Mamoru likes to intervene in almost every episode because during the sticky situations Usagi almost always lost her fighting spirit. Usagi almost always needs some kind of encouragements either from Mamoru (as Tuxedo Mask) or any of the other Senshis to boost up her fighting spirit.

Then again, you have to keep in mind that there are several times where Mamoru has to be saved by Usagi.
